DURBAN ICC JOINS HANDS WITH RISE AGAINST HUNGER AFRICA KZN ON MANDELA DAY
Durban, South Africa – The Durban International Convention Centre (Durban ICC) reaffirms its commitment to sustainable social development and corporate social investment with its recent partnership with Rise Against Hunger Africa KZN for a special meal-packing event held on Mandela Day, July 18th, 2023. The event saw staff from the Centre dedicating their time to pack nutritional meals, contributing to the 67 minutes of service pledged on this significant day.
As a premier venue with a clear mandate to generate positive economic impact for the City of Durban and the country, the Durban ICC recognizes the importance of giving back to its local communities and supporting previously disadvantaged groups. Embracing its responsibility to participate in corporate social investment (CSI) projects, the Centre actively seeks opportunities to make a direct positive impact on the lives of vulnerable individuals.
The special meal-packing event held on Mandela Day is a testament to the Durban ICC’s dedication to sustainable social development. Staff members eagerly participated in packing nutritious meals, ensuring that their 67 minutes of service were utilised to support those in need.
The meals packed during the event will be channelled into the “Rise Against Hunger Africa Early Childhood Development (ECD) Connect” program, focusing on feeding vulnerable children between the ages of 1 to 6 years in 3000 creches across KwaZulu-Natal.
This worthy initiative aligns perfectly with the UN Global Goals for Sustainable Development, the National Development Plan, and eThekwini’s Integrated Developmental Plan. By joining hands with “Rise Against Hunger Africa KZN,” the Durban ICC demonstrates its commitment to reducing inequality, ending hunger and creating a more sustainable future for its local community and beyond.
The event took place at The Station Urban Event Space, fostering collaboration and partnership in a meaningful setting. The Durban ICC extends its heartfelt appreciation to all staff members who participated in the meal-packing event, showing their dedication to making a positive impact on the lives of others.
“We are proud of our staff members’ unwavering commitment to giving back to the community,” said Lindiwe Rakharebe, Chief Executive Officer of the Durban ICC. “Our partnership with ‘Rise Against Hunger Africa KZN’ underscores our dedication to sustainable social development and reinforces our belief in the power of collective action.
