Durban, South Africa – Durban International Convention Centre (Durban ICC) Chief Executive Officer, Ms Lindiwe Rakharebe, has been honoured with the prestigious KZN Top Business Recognition Award, in acknowledgement of her outstanding leadership, unwavering commitment to excellence and significant contribution to the economic growth and business landscape of KwaZulu-Natal.

The award was presented during the KZN Top Business Awards, one of the province’s premier business recognition events, celebrating organisations and individuals who have made an exceptional contribution to the advancement of business, innovation and economic development in KwaZulu-Natal.

In presenting the award, KZN Top Business Publisher, Mr Grant Adlam, described Ms Rakharebe as “a true icon of our province” whose leadership has transformed the Durban ICC into one of Africa’s most respected convention centres while demonstrating a rare combination of uncompromising governance, operational excellence and compassionate leadership.

Referring to Ms Rakharebe as the Durban ICC’s “Mother of the House”, Mr Adlam praised her unique leadership style, noting that she leads with both financial discipline and genuine care for people, creating an organisational culture founded on mutual respect, accountability and service excellence.

Under Ms Rakharebe’s leadership since 2015, the Durban ICC has continued to strengthen its position as one of Africa’s leading business events and entertainment venues. Her tenure has been characterised by exceptional governance, international recognition and sustained economic impact, including eleven clean audits, consistent recognition through the World Travel Awards as Africa’s Leading Meetings and Conference Centre, and the successful hosting of globally significant conferences, exhibitions and events that have generated billions of rand in economic activity and supported thousands of jobs.

Accepting the award, Ms Rakharebe expressed her sincere appreciation to KZN Top Business and dedicated the recognition to the Durban ICC team

“I am deeply honoured and humbled to receive this recognition. While my name appears on the award, it truly belongs to every member of the Durban ICC family. Leadership is never an individual achievement; it is made possible by people who share a common vision, who pursue excellence every day and who remain committed to serving our clients, our city and our province with passion and professionalism.”

She said the recognition served as an important reminder that strong leadership is ultimately measured by the positive impact it creates for others.

“Throughout my career, I have believed that leadership is first and foremost about service. It is about creating opportunities for people to grow, empowering teams to succeed and ensuring that the institutions entrusted to us create lasting value for the communities they serve. I have been privileged to lead an extraordinary organisation that continues to make a meaningful contribution to tourism, business events and economic development in KwaZulu-Natal.”

The award further reinforces Ms Rakharebe’s standing as one of KwaZulu-Natal’s most respected business leaders and recognises the Durban ICC’s continued role as a catalyst for tourism, trade, investment and economic development.

For more than two decades, the Durban ICC has played a pivotal role in positioning Durban and KwaZulu-Natal on the global stage, attracting international conferences, exhibitions, entertainment events and business travellers whose participation continues to generate lasting economic and social benefits for the province.

Reflecting on the recognition, Ms Rakharebe reaffirmed the Durban ICC’s commitment to continuous improvement and future growth.

“Awards such as these inspire us to continue raising the bar. As we look to the future, our focus remains on innovation, sustainability, exceptional service and creating opportunities that contribute to the prosperity of Durban, KwaZulu-Natal and South Africa.
