Durban ICC employee honoured at the Top Women in MICE Awards
Durban International Convention Centre (Durban ICC) Senior Sales Co-ordinator Lindsey Verfaillie, whose unequivocal commitment, passion and dedication has contributed to the Centre’s success over the years, was recently honoured at the annual Top Women in MICE Awards.
The purpose of the Top Women in MICE Awards is to recognise exceptional women in the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) industry. The prestigious event was held in Sandton on 29 August 2019.
“We are extremely proud of Lindsey who has served the Durban ICC with diligence for over 20 years and her recognition is well-deserved. The Durban ICC is fortunate to have a highly experienced and diverse team that is well trained to deliver events in a seamless and client-focused manner. As a female CEO, it is very gratifying to see women excel in the sector and honoured for the great contribution they make to the growth of our industry, our economy and communities we serve,” said Durban ICC Chief Executive Officer Lindiwe Rakharebe.
Verfaillie is not only a dynamic member of the Durban ICC but she is passionate about youth empowerment having mentored junior Sales and Events interns during her illustrious career spanning more than 20 years. Consistently servicing Durban ICC’s clients with dedication and enthusiasm, she is most often credited with going out of her way to assist beyond what would be considered her job description.
Verfaillie started her career at Durban ICC in the Operations Department as the Technical Services Co-ordinator who oversaw and conceptualised all technical services. She has also fulfilled the role of Marketing Executive and Sales Co-ordinator, where she was responsible for overseeing the Centre’s promotional strategies.
“I am honoured and proud to have been selected as one of the Top Women in MICE for 2019. This is such a privilege and I am so blessed to be part of our dynamic industry surrounded by many amazing women. Working in a Centre like the Durban ICC which encourages creativity and innovation, has allowed me to share my passion and knowledge with colleagues and our clients. I am passionate about mentoring interns and students in the industry and a firm believer that together we can achieve more,” said Verfaillie.
Speaking on the 2019 Women in MICE Awards, Shanna Jacobsen, editor of Meetings magazine, which organises the annual awards said: “We hope that with this year’s Women in MICE evolution, we continue to set ourselves aside from the rest and achieve our goal of ensuring that we keep delivering something that is meaningful and aspirational in terms of setting industry standards.”
