Durban International Convention Centre’s Chief Executive Officer Lindiwe Rakharebe was honoured at the 2019 Standard Bank KwaZulu-Natal Top Business Women gala evening for her visionary leadership which has enabled the Centre to continue to exceed customer expectations and deliver brilliant experiences to delegates.
The awards ceremony, held at the Southern Sun Elangeni & Maharani Hotel on 06 November 2019, was attended by highly influential captains of industry and their invited guests from across the province of KwaZulu-Natal.
The Standard Bank KZN Top Business Women event recognised and celebrated some of the industrious and enterprising female business leaders, entrepreneurs, employees and social change agents in the province.
Imraan Noorbhai, Standard Bank Provincial Head KwaZulu-Natal said: “The Standard Bank Group is committed to help create a gender-equal world. The bank has participated in the HeForShe movement since 2018, which is a UN Women social initiative. HeForShe invites men and women to support gender equality which is a fundamental human right and a business imperative. Consequently, we are delighted to be part of this initiative.”
Durban ICC Chief Executive Officer Lindiwe Rakharebe said the recognition by Standard Bank serves to affirm the Centre’s position as Africa’s leading convention centre – a reputation that the Durban ICC continuously strives to uphold each and every day.
“I am deeply honoured to receive this recognition from Standard Bank and dedicate this award to my amazing team at the Durban ICC. Our success as a company can be attributed to the Durban ICC’s highly experienced and friendly team who ensure that each event is seamlessly executed, thus giving the client complete peace of mind. Providing exceptional customer service remains the heartbeat of the Durban ICC and we strive to ensure that every delegate who walks through our five-star facility has a memorable experience. Delegates visiting the Centre can look forward to exceptional standards of culinary excellence and superb hospitality,” said Rakharebe.
To obtain the stories that formed the basis for the gala evening’s proceedings, the KZN Top Business team interviewed 62 women who were profiled through the mediums of video and print. Grant Adlam, publisher of the KZN Top Business explained: “Our team has been inspired by the many women whose stories we have heard. These stories are about ordinary women, from many different backgrounds, who have had varied journeys to get to where they are today. While some have been blessed with many advantages, others have overcome trauma, severe illness, life changing accidents, emotional stress and/or financial hardships to realise their dreams. Each woman featured is deserving of recognition.”
