Durban ICC reaches out to local communities
Playing a positive role in society and investing in community development programmes remains an integral part of the Durban International Convention Centre (Durban ICC).
Durban ICC Chief Executive Officer Lindiwe Rakharebe said the work that the centre does impacts on the communities in which it operates, one way or another, therefore it was important to give back to those in need.
“Ploughing back to the community and lending a helping hand to those that are less fortunate is at the heart of what we do. In line with our Corporate Social Investment commitments, the Durban ICC has adopted a streamlined approach in responding to the high volume of funding proposals it receives from Non-Profit Organisations. The approach entails a transparent process during which Durban ICC invites Non-Profit Organisations to apply for sponsorship,” she said.
The Durban ICC remains committed to giving back to its community through investing in Environmental, Social and Governance projects that are in line with the United Nations Global Goals for Sustainable Development, which include, among other initiatives, the elimination of poverty and hunger, the promotion of good health and well-being, quality education, gender equality as well as affordable and clean energy.
“The culture of giving back is part of our DNA as a Centre, whether it’s by partnering with Non-Profit Organisations to help those less fortunate or volunteering our time and resources for a worthy cause,” added Rakharebe.
The centre’s Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Committee has received an overwhelming number of applications in response to the request for sponsorship proposals advertised on 1 February 2019.
The closing date for submitting applications was 31 March 2019. The ESG Committee is currently reviewing all the applications that were received and successful applicants will be notified before the end of May.
Although the Durban ICC is unable to sponsor each and every Non-Profit Organisation, the centre commends the work done by various organisation to change people’s lives.
