Human Rights Art and Essay Competition judging by the public
Phansi Museum launched an art and essay competition for Grades 7, 11 and 12 learners from all schools in KZN. Over 800 entries were received. The theme of the completion related to the Human Rights Mural, a section of which can be viewed on the premises of the Durban ICC.
The aim of the completion was to encourage recipients or viewers of the 2017 ART CRAFT AND TRADITION Calendar, printed by the Museum and distributed freely to 1000’s of schools in the province to discuss, compare and depict their understanding of certain clauses on paper either in writing or by illustration in any medium. All the works by 90 schools are currently on view in the Museum and are waiting to be judged by the public. Winners will be announced on Saturday, 29 July 2017.
In total 10 authors and artists of the most outstanding and original works will each receive R2 500 and the teachers responsible for leading the successful learners will receive R2 000 per winning submission, of which R1 000 is a prize for the teacher and the balance of R1 000 is to be spent on any creative venture for the class. The nature of the venture will be decided by the winning class.
